Planet Aid Canada, Inc – a Toronto based registered charity - is launching a green action focused on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day (Thursday April 22-2010)

We are inviting schools in Toronto and in the GTA to join us by organizing clothing drive during the Month of April 2010.

SIGN UP YOUR SCHOOL to teach students, parents and teachers how they can be a part of reducing the amount of garbage in the Ontario landfills, make sure the donated clothing is reused and at the same time support a program for AIDS orphans in Africa. (For every 1,000 pounds of clothes collected from this event $100 will be donated to Children’s Town in Zambia).

Follow the event and schools participating on our website

PLANET AID CANADA Inc.

is a non-profit organization collecting used clothing in the GTA.

Our aim is to reduce the amount of garbage in the Ontario landfills and to reuse the donated clothing. But also to create jobs and support programs in Africa (Zambia). We are working year round to reduce the amounts of garbage by collecting used clothing mostly from high rise buildings but also from car wash’s, street malls and schools in the GTA.

We are taking the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2010 as an opportunity to involve schools to raise awareness and also offer the chance to participate in an Earth Day event.

EARTH DAY

is a pivotal opportunity for people, corporations and governments to join together to create a global green economy.

Our coordinated efforts will be recognized by future generations as a turning point. All across Toronto, Canada and the world Earth Day 40 events are being organized. Be a part of the movement with us.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Decide in the teachers council if you want to JOIN
  • Contact laura@planetaid-canada.org or sign up via www.planetaid-canada.org. Sign up now or later – there is no deadline.
  • Involve everyone at the school by putting up posters on your bulletin boards, promote the idea among students and advertise the event in the school newsletter for the parents to know.
  • Dedicate a special room or area at the school where you collect the clothing (in bags)
  •  Arrange with Planet Aid Canada to do pick-ups during the month or in the end of the project.

More IDEAS including Africa:

  • Ask Planet Aid to send a 20 minute movie from Children’s Town.
  • Ask Planet Aid to send a representative to make a presentation about HIV/Aids and the situation for orphans in Africa.
  • Make an EARTH DAY drawing competition at the school. Students are asked to make drawings (letter size paper). A panel of students and teachers are selecting 10-20 of the best drawings. Laminate the drawings and Planet Aid will make sure they are sent to Children’s Town in Zambia where they will decorate the walls in their new dining hall.

LONG TERM clothing recycling at the school

If you are interested in a long term recycling program your school can host a drop off donation box or cart that can be accessible all year round.

The box can be placed outdoors or the cart indoors. We currently have several schools in Toronto hosting boxes.
